In less than 40 weeks, your baby will be born and this magical time of pregnancy will end. If you want to learn what creative ways there are to capture this special time of anticipation for your baby forever, then you've come to the right place.

I'm Nadine, the photographer and videographer behind "Wunderfotografie" in Wardenburg, Oldenburg County. In this guest post, I'll give you creative ideas to capture the memories of each milestone of your pregnancy forever.

1st idea: "My belly is growing so fast" Capture memories in the form of a video.

What you'll need:

  • Your smartphone
  • An outfit that will fit from the beginning to the end of your pregnancy
  • An app for editing videos (e.g., iMovie or InShot)

Implementation:

You'll find a place at home where there's a neutral background. It's best if there's not much distraction from you there. Place your phone with the camera facing the wall on a straight surface, e.g. a table, or use a tripod for smartphones. If you want to share the video on social media at the end, portrait format is a good choice. Otherwise, I recommend shooting in landscape format. You think about at what time interval (for example, always at the change of the week or the change of the SS month). Find the clothes that will fit you until the end of pregnancy. For example, a loose pair of jeans that you open later so that the baby bump still fits in. For the top, a tight-fitting top or T-shirt or a bra is suitable, so that you can see the naked baby bump.

Position your smartphone at exactly the same point each time if possible and walk through the picture from left to right. While doing this, you can caress your belly and also stop for a moment or just walk through the picture. With the app iMovie for IOS or InShot for Android (version without watermark only against payment) you can then cut the individual clips together at the end. That way, it looks like you're running through the video over and over again, and your belly is growing furiously. Luckily, this doesn't happen quite as fast in reality ;) The video ends really cute if you also record a sequence when your baby is there and you run through the picture with your baby in your arms.

My tip to you:

For the best effect, you should always wear the same clothes and also the same hairstyle. If you don't want people to see how your hair might grow in between, make a bun for the videos.

2nd idea: series of pictures "My baby bump."

What you need for this:

  • Your smartphone or a camera
  • An outfit that will fit from the beginning to the end of your pregnancy
  • An app or program to create collages (e.g., Canva)

Implementation:

You'll find a place at home where there's a neutral background. It's best if there's not much distracting from you there. Place your phone with the camera facing the wall on a straight surface, e.g. a table, or use a tripod for smartphones. I always recommend taking a photo at the change of the month of pregnancy. Find the clothes that will fit you until the end of pregnancy. For example, a loose jeans, which you open later, so that the baby bump still fits in. For the top, a tight-fitting top or T-shirt or a bra is suitable, so that you can see the naked baby bump.

Set up your smartphone at exactly the same point each time if possible and take a photo of you and your baby bump. At the end, you can also take a photo with your baby. It's best to hold it as low as possible in front of your belly. You can't believe that this little miracle was in your belly just a short time ago, can you? :)

My tip to you:

Again, the effect is best if you always wear the same clothes and also the same hairstyle. If you don't want people to see how your hair might grow in between, then make a bun for the photos.

3rd idea: Create a place for all pregnancy memories.

What you'll need:

  • A neutral cardboard or wooden gift box
  • Craft materials such as glue, ribbon, paints, paintbrushes.
  • Things you want to keep as a memento of the pregnancy
  • Developed photos from the pregnancy
  • Optional: USB flash drive, positive pregnancy test, ultrasound pictures

Implementation:

You can get creative with this box and create a place where your pregnancy memories will find a safe and beautiful place. Think in advance what everything should find a place in the box. Then you can choose the box. When designing the box, you can give free rein to your creativity. You can paint it with ink (only with cardboard box) or with acrylic paint, stick photos on it, attach bows or other things and also write on it. As inspiration for a lettering I have a few ideas for you here:

  • Looking forward to seeing you!
  • Love in the belly
  • When love becomes life...

You can fill the box with everything that reminds you of your pregnancy. I recommend you also print out photos from your smartphone from everyday life and keep them. Maybe you can even take the time to put them all on a USB stick. You can then store this in the box as well. Your smartphone can always get lost or broken and it would be way too bad to lose these so precious memories of pregnancy.

My tip to you:

I also associate memories very intensely with smells and sounds. To capture these kinds of memories as well, you can record heart sounds with your smartphone during CTG and create a playlist (e.g. on Spotify) that includes only the songs you particularly enjoyed listening to during pregnancy. Maybe you used a cream or oil for your belly during pregnancy that you associate with pregnancy. Keep this too and use it as a return ticket to that time when you smell it after pregnancy.

Note from Natalie:

Of course, there are many more Fotograf:innen for baby bump photos. This is especially relevant for you if you don't live near Oldenburg. I recommend that you make an appointment early, as most photographers only offer a limited number of baby bump shoots per month and sometimes have long waiting times. Also, image style and cost vary, so comparisons can be well worth it to make sure you're truly satisfied in the end.
